The serious case of infant abuse is being investigated by the Nicosia CID, following the diagnosis of shaken baby syndrome in a boy just three months old.
The infant, who lives with his parents in Nicosia, was transferred on Friday, January 23, 2026, to Makarios Hospital in critical condition. Doctors confirmed that he suffered severe physical harm, characteristic of shaken baby syndrome.
As part of the investigation, an arrest warrant was issued against the 28-year-old father, who was arrested this morning. Offenses under investigation include causing grievous bodily harm, exposure and mistreatment of a child under 16 years old, as well as other acts endangering the physical integrity of the infant. The three-month-old boy remains hospitalized while authorities continue gathering testimonial material and investigating the circumstances of the incident.
