Hambo Kyriakou is the fifth footballer linked with Apollon to join AEK in the last 2.5 years. He made the trip from Limassol to Larnaca.
Before him, there were Valentin Roberge, Godswill Ekpolo, and Dimitris Dimitriou. Hambo’s transfer wasn’t direct from Limassol; it went through Romania and Dynamo Bucharest. Still, his football roots are deeply connected to Apollon, where he grew up and made a name for himself.
All these players joined as free agents, so AEK didn’t pay any transfer fees.
If we include Fanos Katelaris—the only one not on the Larnaca team’s roster anymore—five players from the ‘blue and white’ jersey have moved to AEK Larnaca in recent years. Four of them were part of the Limassol team that won the championship in 2022.
This shows the talent of those Apollon players from that time and AEK’s smart strategy to invest in experienced players who know the Cypriot league well.
