This year, the seasonal flu is hitting Cyprus hard. Hospitals are admitting new patients daily, and cases keep rising. Since November, there have been 13 deaths, with the youngest victim at just 64 years old. Most of those who died were elderly or had health issues.
On the Alpha News program, Elisavet Konstantinou, Deputy General Director of the Ministry of Health, shared that 145,000 vaccines have been given out from a total of 160,000 received.
Ms. Konstantinou stressed that health authorities are watching the situation closely and reminded everyone how important vaccination is, especially for vulnerable groups, to avoid severe illness. She also assured that hospitals can handle the pressure with help from private facilities.
