Health authorities are on alert as the epidemic wave shows a spike, with patient admissions taking an upward turn. Flu vaccinations have reached 110,000, while interest in Covid-19 vaccination remains stalled.
In statements made at the Limassol General Hospital, the Deputy Director General of the Ministry of Health, Elisavet Konstantinou, presented the current situation within the national health system, sending a message of vigilance to citizens.
Two speeds in vaccinations
Despite the general surge in viral infections, citizens appear to be prioritizing their protection depending on the disease. Specifically:
- Seasonal flu: The response is deemed particularly strong, with 110,000 vaccinations administered. Significantly, 75% of the vulnerable population groups have already been covered.
- COVID-19: Interest is recorded as “frozen,” with only 3,800 people vaccinated to date—a number hovering at the same low levels as the corresponding period last year.
Pressure on hospitals
Ms. Konstantinou revealed that in recent days, admissions to public and private hospitals have doubled. Although the situation in Intensive Care Units (ICUs) remains controlled and within expected limits, the Ministry of Health is closely monitoring the upward trajectory of the epidemic wave.

The Deputy Director General called on the public not to neglect their protection, clarifying the vaccination channels:
