Two pressing issues are set to dominate today’s Cabinet meeting: tackling foot-and-mouth disease devastating the livestock sector and runaway price increases triggered by the war in the Middle East.
“These are difficult times that call for bold decisions,” President Christodoulides stressed during a meeting in Pachna, Limassol, on Saturday, where he reviewed the implementation of recovery plans for fire-affected areas.
The President announced that the Cabinet will approve a specific livestock support plan. “In cooperation with all organised groups and those affected, we will do whatever it takes to revive and further strengthen animal farming in our country,” he said.
At the same time, Christodoulides declared zero tolerance for profiteering. “We will not accept anyone exploiting this situation at the expense of consumers,” he underlined, noting that zero-VAT measures and electricity subsidies are already in place.
Today’s session, scheduled for 4 p.m., is expected to set the framework for compensation and restructuring for affected farmers.
