A shocking incident has unsettled residents of Germasogeia: unknown individuals removed the busts of four heroes who fell fighting during the Turkish invasion of 1974, in an act that goes well beyond simple vandalism.
Deputy Mayor of Amathous Christos Papamichael publicly condemned the incident, calling it “disgraceful and utterly reprehensible,” stressing that it deeply offends the history and memory of the area.
The stolen busts honoured heroes Panagiotis Tsangaris, Trofimos Koulle, Evangelos Georgiou, and Sofronis Sofroniou — four young men who sacrificed their lives defending their homeland.
“Their heroism cannot be stolen, destroyed, or forgotten,” Papamichael emphasised, calling on society to stand against such acts and safeguard its historical identity.
