As of 25 February 2026, GeSY has activated a new feature aimed at closing a major gap in patient medical records.
The Health Insurance Organisation now allows doctors to register services provided either abroad or in Cyprus by providers outside GeSY. In practice, this means a patient’s history no longer ends at the system’s border.
Entries are made by personal and specialist doctors in the new section “Services abroad or outside GeSY in Cyprus.” Doctors can record where the service was provided, the date (including retroactively), the provider, a summary of up to 2,000 characters, and must upload a supporting document such as a discharge note or medical report.
For services abroad, eligible dates start from 2 October 2025, when the organisation officially took over referrals of beneficiaries overseas.
The new records will also be visible through the Beneficiary Portal for transparency, while data entry remains exclusively the responsibility of doctors. The expected outcome is better continuity of care, fewer duplicate tests, and stronger patient safety.
