The Government is working with all mobile phone providers in Cyprus to launch a new SMS system. This system will help send timely and accurate alerts to citizens during emergencies.
This service will provide self-protection instructions to everyone, keeping things calm and clear. Today, around 7 p.m., a test message will go out to all mobile phones in Cyprus to check if the system works.
The Minister of Interior, Mr. Konstantinos Ioannou, reminded everyone of the basic safety measures from Civil Defense in case of an actual emergency during the test. If you have a basement, go there calmly. If you’re indoors without a basement, stay away from doors, windows, and glass. If you’re outside, find the nearest safe indoor spot. In schools, hospitals, or stadiums, follow the staff’s instructions; don’t drive to these places. Until you get more instructions, stay indoors and limit going outside.
This new SMS service aims to give helpful instructions to citizens in a calm and safe way, improving readiness and protection for everyone.
