With deep sadness, the school community of Apostolos Markos High School in Archangelos bids farewell to Physical Education teacher Kostas Georgiou, who unexpectedly passed away.
Today, silence and stillness prevailed among students and teachers at the school, with all scheduled events canceled as a sign of mourning. The 63-year-old Kostas Georgiou served the school with dedication, integrity, and commitment, instilling in his students a love for sports, cooperation, and respect for others. His loss leaves an irreplaceable void in the school family.
In his honor, the school declares a three-day mourning period. A delegation will attend the funeral service with a wreath-laying ceremony. Planned activities such as blood donation and sports awards will be dedicated to his memory. Additionally, it was decided to name a school hall in his honor.
According to an announcement by APOEL, the deceased also served the club as a trainer for both academy teams and the first team during the 1980s and 1990s, leaving a significant mark on Cypriot sports. The funeral service for Kostas Georgiou will be held at Saint Panteleimon Church in Engomi, on Friday, February 20, 2026, at 14:30. The family requests that donations be made to the ‘Little Heroes’ Foundation and for the welfare of Apostolos Markos High School, in lieu of wreaths, to honor his memory.
