Landslides are happening in hilly areas because of heavy rain. Authorities are warning drivers to be extra careful, especially on risky roads.

Today, the weather will be partly cloudy with a chance of light showers. In the afternoon, expect local rain, mainly in the western part of the island. Winds will come from the northeast to southeast, blowing weak to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort, and locally up to strong at 5 Beaufort. The sea will be rough. The temperature will reach about 15 degrees inland and on the coast, and around 7 degrees in the higher mountains.

Tonight, the weather will slowly turn cloudy with local rain and some isolated thunderstorms. Snow or sleet is likely on the highest peaks of Troodos. Winds will mainly blow from northeast to southeast, weak to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort, and locally moderate at 4 Beaufort. The sea will remain rough. The temperature will drop to 8 degrees inland, about 11 on the coast, and 3 degrees in the higher mountains, where frost may occur locally.

Saturday is expected to bring local rain and isolated thunderstorms along with snow in the higher mountains. However, we should see a noticeable improvement in weather by afternoon. Sunday will be mostly cloudy at times, with a chance of an isolated shower in the mountains during the afternoon. Monday will start partly cloudy but become cloudy at night with local rain expected.

The temperature won’t change much on Saturday; however, it will rise on Sunday and stay near or slightly above average for this time of year. Monday temperatures will be similar to those on Sunday. The snow depth at Chionistra was 17 centimeters when this report was made.
