Nestled in the beautiful mountains of Limassol, just a few minutes from Koilani village, is a special chapel: Agia Mavra. This spot mixes history, faith, and nature, making it a must-see.

The small stone chapel sits about two kilometers from the village, close to the Kryos River. The peaceful scenery is lush, and the trip there feels like a nice escape into nature.

Agia Mavra dates back to between the 12th and 15th centuries and is an important example of local religious architecture. Inside, there were once frescoes of Agia Mavra and Saint Timothy, showing the site’s rich history and religious importance.

Local tradition says there’s a small spring near the church. Many believe its water is blessed. For years, visitors have come here to rest, light a candle, and soak in the calm beauty of the area.

Recently, this area faced large wildfires that impacted mountainous Limassol. While the fire threatened nearby villages and nature, Agia Mavra remained safe, standing strong as a piece of local history.

Today, Agia Mavra is a lovely stop for those exploring Limassol’s wine villages. Whether for pilgrimage or peace in nature, this small chapel shows us that Cyprus’s true beauty often lies in its simplest places.
