Four new works by Cypriot artists, alongside two existing sculptures that already adorn the space, were unveiled at the “Mediterranean” Artists’ Park.
The Municipality of Larnaca and the Larnaca Tourism Development and Promotion Company presented the first phase of the sculpture installation in the park.
The showcased pieces include “Voices of Stone” and “Echoes of the Sea” by Androula Angelidou Antoniadou, “Somehow Up and Stand” by Andreas Kallis, “Vele al Vento” by Katerina Stavrou, “Umbrella Holders” by Fotis Dimitriou, and “Flowers of the Mediterranean” by Christiana Charalambous.
This initiative was realized with the support of the Deputy Ministry of Tourism, aiming to promote the “Mediterranean” Artists’ Park as a space for cultural creation and tourism reference. The selection of works was conducted through a competitive process, overseen by an Evaluation Committee comprising Athos Kazantzis, Victor Mandovani, Joseph Hadjikyriakos, Georgia Michailidou, and Irene Konstantinou.
The sculptural creations, inspired by the theme “Mediterranean,” highlight the relationship between the land, the sea, nature, and culture.
Each piece is accompanied by signage featuring a QR code, allowing visitors to access information about the creator and its content. The installation of additional sculptures is expected to continue into 2026.
Presentation of the Sculptures
“Voices of Stone” – Androula Angelidou Antoniadou
A vertical sculpture made from light-colored stone depicting human forms emerging and disappearing within the material, symbolizing memory, continuity, and the collective experience of the place. The column, with its simple yet monumental character, evokes the community’s roots and humanity’s resilience against time. The interplay of light and shadow on its etched surfaces conveys the eternal transformation of memory and identity.
“Somehow Up and Stand” – Andreas Kallis
A work that combines rough stone with fluid, almost transparent elements, expressing the conflict between stability and instability, gravity and flow. The composition reflects humanity’s need for balance in a world of constant change. The piece serves as a symbol of mental resilience and inner strength while also referencing the Mediterranean as a realm of perpetual movement, change, and exploration.
“Vele al Vento” – Katerina Stavrou
A minimalist depiction of sailing boat sails that captures humanity’s timeless relationship with the sea, wind, and freedom. The two sails appear to move with the breath of the wind, infusing vitality and motion into the work. The composition exudes a sense of balance and inner tranquility, while the ability to observe the interior space of the sculpture enhances viewer interaction. A piece that honors the Mediterranean tradition of sailing and the spirit of exploration.
“Umbrella Holders” – Fotis Dimitriou
Three human figures made from resin and metal stand in space holding metallic umbrellas, like silent observers of everyday life and the passage of time.
