A dispute with wider implications has erupted in Latsi, where state authorities stepped in after complaints that a restaurant was being extended onto the sand within the protected beach zone.
According to the authorities, the works that began on Saturday involved a concrete extension of about 12 metres. Once informed, Interior Minister Konstantinos Ioannou ordered immediate intervention and the delivery of an official notice requiring the works to stop.
A team from the Paphos district administration and the district local government organisation went to the site, but the owner reportedly refused to accept the notice. Officials then posted it on the premises, making the order formally enforceable.
The owner, Nestoras Neophytou, says he is being singled out and treated unequally, arguing that pressure is being applied because he is the brother of Averof Neophytou. The case is now drawing broader attention because it touches on legality, coastal protection and equal enforcement of the rules.
