Investigators from the police headquarters recently searched the offices of the Road Transport Department as part of the criminal probe into the Takata airbag scandal. Computers, documents and other evidence were seized during the operation.
The investigative team is also examining possible manslaughter-related liability, focusing on whether the handling of the case by state services may have contributed to the outcome.
The case is tied to two deaths that shocked Cyprus: 24-year-old Kyriakos Oxinos in Nicosia on 24 January 2023 and 19-year-old Styliani Giorgalli on the Avgorou–Frenaros road on 21 October 2024.
Authorities are now reviewing the seized material to determine what decisions were taken, how the case was managed and whether any criminal responsibility should follow.
