On the evening of Thursday, January 22, journalist Spyros Karatzaféris passed away at 86. His brother, Giorgos Karatzaféris, shared the news on Parapolitika 90.1 radio on Friday morning.
Spyros Karatzaféris had a long career in various media, including print, TV, and radio. He started at Vradyni in 1959 and worked for newspapers like Ethnos, Apogevmatini, and Eleftherotypia. He was well-known for his political reporting, which often stirred reactions from officials.
Cyprus played a big role in his life and career. After facing legal issues from his articles in Epirotita, Spyros found a safe haven in Cyprus and kept working as a journalist. There, he hosted the daily show “Good Morning Mr. Kokkinos” on “Oh FM,” which also aired in Greece, helping him stay influential in the Greek community.
Even while living on the island, he continued to publish the weekly newspaper 48 Hours and the military magazine Defense Topics. Cyprus mainly served as a base of operations and platform for his voice in Greece. His career has left a lasting impact on Greek journalism and political reporting, with a special connection to Cyprus during a key time in his life.
