A significant revelation by Foreign Minister Konstantinos Kombos, who publicly confirmed for the first time that the explosive-laden drones targeting British bases in Cyprus were launched from Lebanon.
Speaking to the British newspaper The Guardian, Kombos stated: “Right now we need to be looking towards the Lebanese front,” stressing that no threat from the north-eastern directions can be ruled out.
The minister emphasised the need for the defensive systems being deployed around the island to cover every possible direction of threat. Cypriot officials consistently stress that the target was exclusively the British bases, not the Republic of Cyprus.
This revelation comes at a time when an unprecedented European armada of air defence and naval assets has rushed to the island, forming an extraordinary security cordon around Cyprus as an EU member state.
