Deputy Tourism Minister Kostas Koumis delivered a clear message that Cyprus remains a safe destination, speaking during the TUI Cyprus Marathon in Kato Paphos.

“Cyprus was, is and will always be a safe destination,” Koumis said, noting that over 2,500 athletes arrived from abroad in recent days — a signal in itself that tourism activity continues uninterrupted.

However, the deputy minister acknowledged that effects are already being felt. “We have seen drops in arrivals, some cancellations and a slowdown in bookings for the entire tourist season,” he said, clarifying that cancellations mainly affect the immediately following months.

Koumis stressed that Cyprus has never been part of the conflict equation, while its role is purely supportive in the pursuit of peace in the region. This year’s marathon is co-organised with tourism giant TUI Group, significantly enhancing the event’s international reach.
