A new complaint is being prepared against MEP Faidias Panayiotou for violating personal data. The Cyprus Confederation of Disabled People’s Organizations (KYSOA) is very unhappy with his actions and public comments. This case has already been taken to the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola.
KYSOA, along with the European Disability Forum, filed a related complaint with the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola. In a statement on the Alpha Good Morning show, KYSOA President Themis Anthopoulou said that the MEP’s behavior on TV after the incident raised serious concerns. She also shared that they are preparing another complaint because the athlete’s face was not removed from his apology video, despite requests.
The athlete asked from the start, through KYSOA, to have his face removed from the video. This request was ignored, leading to today’s complaint to the Commissioner for Personal Data Protection.
“As KYSOA and as a disability movement, we have political goals and demands about human rights. This is a political issue and not a hidden agenda. Defending human rights should not be seen as having political motives because it undermines even the ‘apology’ itself,” she said. The Organization finally adds that “with every apology that has a ‘catch’, decades-long struggles are disrespected, and the very role of the MEP is insulted.”
