Workers at Goldair Handling Cyprus Ltd launched a spontaneous work stoppage at Larnaca Airport in the morning, affecting a limited number of flights.
The action is linked to the company’s decision to scale down operations and proceed with staff redundancies. While many employees accepted transfer options to other ground-handling providers, around 30 workers reportedly declined the offered terms.
According to union sources, the dispute centers on changes in job duties, deterioration of working conditions, and pending allowances that employees say should have been settled under collective agreements.
A SEK representative said the company had been notified in advance, along with the Ministry of Labour and Hermes Airports, adding that the aim is not to disrupt passengers but to secure fair settlement of employment claims.
Next steps are expected after responses from the company and the Ministry’s Mediation Service, which will determine whether de-escalation through negotiations is possible.
