The Larnaca District Court has ordered an eight-day detention for five people from Palestine and Jordan.

These individuals are suspected of being involved in a shooting that happened last Saturday in central Larnaca. Authorities are still looking for three more suspects — two from Palestine and one from Jordan — and they think some might have escaped abroad.

In addition, a 48-year-old Cypriot man is also in custody. He was seriously injured in the head during the clash and is now at Larnaca General Hospital. The court ordered his detention, and police say he is the ‘leader’ of the illegal group.

Investigators say this group allegedly asked for large sums of money to provide ‘protection’ to businesses and nightclubs. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities collecting testimonies and searching for the wanted suspects.
