The conversation about Larnaca’s Port and Marina is back in the spotlight. This time, it’s not just politicians or reports talking, but the community itself. A recent survey by CMRC – Cypronetwork Ltd, done in December 2025 in Larnaca district, shows what citizens want: the project should start up again right where it left off.
The survey included 500 people aged 18 and older. It used smart sampling methods and personal and phone interviews to tackle important questions that have worried Larnaca for a while. The results are clear.
When asked how to move forward with the Port and Marina, 59% of respondents say the project should continue from where it stopped. Only 27% want a complete redesign, and just 10% support starting a new tender. This support is especially strong among those aged 25–34, where 79% want to continue the project.
The message about the government’s role is even stronger. If all necessary conditions are met, 68% of citizens think the state should quickly award the project. Only 23% prefer a new tender announcement, even if it causes delays. This view is consistent across all social and educational groups, with slightly more support from women.
It’s interesting to see how citizens feel about ending the contract. Seventy-six percent believe this would slow down Larnaca’s growth, while only 8% think it would speed things up. This shows that people see the project as vital for the city’s overall progress, not just a construction job.
The numbers get even better when people talk about the project’s benefits. Ninety-three percent believe developing the Port and Marina will boost tourism and attract new investments, while 92% think it will create jobs. Additionally, 89% link the project to upgrading infrastructure and improving the city’s image, especially with Larnaca becoming European Capital of Culture in 2030.
Many also see city improvement as important. Fifty-two percent think expanding and upgrading the port will greatly enhance Larnaca, while another 37% see it as a significant improvement. An impressive 89% believe this project will play a key role in shaping the city’s future.
On a political level, the survey shows a more complex picture. While citizens are cautious about past government actions, they clearly want more involvement from authorities. Notably, 72% fully agree that state authorities should be more active in making this project happen, and over 50% believe that developing the Port and Marina together can raise Larnaca’s profile internationally.
In this context, Prosperity Group CY Ltd has welcomed society’s clear wishes and stated its readiness to move forward with the project as approved by the state. This stance is backed by social acceptance shown in the research and highlights the need for political decision-making.
The conclusion is simple: Larnaca’s citizens have made their voices heard. They want continuity, speed, and a clear plan. Now it’s up to the state to turn this message into action.
