A letter was sent to the President of the Parliamentary Committee on Finance and Budget, Christiana Erotokritou, by AKEL MP Aristos Damianou, requesting the revival of the discussion in the Committee of the Law Proposal submitted in 2023, aimed at protecting borrowers.
According to the details mentioned, the Law Proposal aims to ensure citizens’ right to appeal to court, seeking suspension of the foreclosure of their main residence in cases of illegal charges and abusive clauses in their loan contracts.
Mr. Damianou emphasizes the need to strengthen legal protection for borrowers and provide genuine access to justice, especially during a period of increased financial pressure on households. The issue is expected to be brought before the Parliamentary Committee on Finance and Budget for examination once again.
