Life expectancy at birth in Cyprus reached 83.55 years in 2024, according to the latest Eurostat data, placing the country above the European Union average.
In Cyprus, life expectancy stood at 81.5 years for men and 85.6 years for women, reflecting the broader EU pattern in which women live longer than men.
Across the EU, life expectancy in 2024 was 81.5 years, up by 0.1 compared with 2023. After the decline recorded in 2020 and 2021 during the pandemic, the indicator has recovered and is now above 2019 levels.
The highest national values were recorded in Spain (84 years), Sweden (83.8), and Italy (83.7), with Cyprus ranking just behind this leading group.
Regional differences remain significant, with strong results in Madrid and in several Italian and Swedish regions, while lower figures are seen in parts of Bulgaria, France, and Hungary.
