Tsiknopempti marks the start of the Limassol Carnival. This kicks off an 11-day festival that ends on February 22 with a big parade.
The day begins at 7:30 AM with the ‘First Foukou’ at the Lemesos Media Group venue. Then, at 10:00 AM, the fun moves to the city’s commercial center with music and snacks in front of Eurobank and Bank of Cyprus.
At 1:30 PM, Saripolou Square will host the ‘Cantadores of Limassol,’ joined by local officials and the carnival’s ‘royal family.’
Later, at 5:30 PM, the coronation events kick off at Grigori Afxentiou Square. At 7:00 PM, a parade starts from the Municipal Hall with the Philharmonic, majorettes, and the queen’s float, meeting up with the cantadores group ‘Ariones’ along the way.
At 7:30 PM, we’ll see the coronation of the ‘Queen of Passion and Madness,’ played this year by Amaryllis Kyriakou, along with the percussion group Batukinio.
The festivities will wrap up with a huge carnival party featuring Cypriot artists, DJs, and stunning projection mapping on the Limassol District Administration building.
