Recently, a video from RIK went viral. A local person shared his strong disappointment: “They’re fooling people! They brought folks to guard the house. It’s all nonsense. There’s no snow at all, just lies!”
I totally get the disappointment. Many of us head up the mountain hoping for a snowy wonderland. We want to have snowball fights with the kids or just enjoy the beautiful white scenery. But when we get there and see green (or brown) instead, it’s a letdown.
But let’s clear things up
There was snowfall recently, with flakes covering the higher peaks of Troodos in lovely scenes. However, the weather in Cyprus, especially in places like Troodos, can be unpredictable. Snow might fall at night or early morning, stick around for a bit, and then melt quickly when the sun comes up and temperatures rise (even just a few degrees), especially at lower spots or on exposed slopes.
This time, it snowed on Saturday and melted by Sunday morning. It wasn’t “lies” – it was just… Cyprus!
So, what do we do now?
Instead of complaining and blaming the media or the weather, let’s be flexible. Troodos isn’t only about snow. It offers plenty of fun activities, whether there’s snow or not:
- Walking with kids on trails or around Troodos square.
- Picnic at one of the lovely viewpoints (bring a blanket, coffee, and snacks).
- Visiting villages: wander through charming alleys.
- Playground or park: Many spots have areas for kids to run around.
- Live cameras & forecast: Before heading out, check Troodos live cameras (Kitasweather, Meteorological Service) or the snow report. We don’t live in a simulation, where we press a button, and it snows on demand!
The bottom line is simple: We can’t control the weather. But we can control our mood and creativity. Troodos is amazing 365 days a year – whether it’s snowy, sunny, or rainy. Let’s make the best of it instead of being upset about something we can’t change.
