We noted in a previous report that Hernán Losada is clearly following in the footsteps of Sofronis Avgousti, leading the Limassol team on a path that generates excitement and optimism.
His record so far is flawless:
10 wins in as many matches, in both league and cup, with one of them coming in extra time against Omonia Aradippou. Losada’s Apollon scored in all games, totaling 20 goals, while keeping a clean sheet in six matches, highlighting the team’s overall balance.
In the league, they have eight wins, while in the cup they achieved two victories, corresponding to as many qualifications, eliminating Anorthosis and Omonia Aradippou consecutively. This journey closely resembles the one Apollon recorded during the 2016-17 season and the 2019-20 football period when Sofronis Avgousti was at the helm.
In the first instance, the Limassol team went 26 games unbeaten across both competitions, with the Cypriot coach taking over from Pedro Emanuel, who left after three consecutive draws in the league with the same score (1-1), and while the ‘blue-whites’ had completed seven matches without defeat.
With Avgousti on the bench, Apollon ran an impressive unbeaten streak of 19 games, reaching a total of 26 before suffering a defeat. The unbeaten run ended after nearly six months on April 8, 2017, when Anorthosis won at home against Limassol’s team with a score of 3-1. During this period, they celebrated 19 victories and drew seven times. Simultaneously, they won 10 consecutive games, eight in the league and two in the cup, which closely mirrors this year’s journey of the ‘blue-whites’ with Hernán Losada on the bench since both the Cypriot coach and the Argentine coach had the same record at their start with Apollon.
Regarding the second instance, Limassol’s team ran an unbeaten streak of 12 games in league and cup during the 2019-20 football season. The streak began on November 3, 2019, with an away victory of 3-0 against ENP and concluded on January 29, 2020, with a 2-1 win over APOEL at GSP for the cup competition. During that period, Apollon achieved ten consecutive victories, seven in the league and three in the cup, with the streak ending by AEL on February 2, 2020, when the ‘yellow-blues’ prevailed with a score of 2-0 (as hosts) in the Limassol derby.
The story seems to be repeating itself as Hernán Losada appears ready to write his own chapter at Apollon, having already laid the foundations for a season with high expectations and great ambitions.
