A 37-year-old man was sentenced to 14 months in prison for animal abuse and illegal residency.
This case came to light on May 7, 2025, when police got a tip about an animal being butchered in a parking lot of an apartment building in free Famagusta. They found the butchered animal, identified as a kangaroo by Veterinary Services, along with the tools used.
Investigations revealed that the 37-year-old was living in Cyprus illegally, as his asylum request was denied in 2022.
