She highlighted that the situation at the dams is still critical, even with recent rain. Each household must use water wisely to ensure a steady supply in the coming months. She explained that cutting down just two minutes of running water daily from each person can really help save reserves.

On a Third program, Ms. Panagiotou pointed out that this reduction is vital to prevent water supply limits during summer. “Using water responsibly at home is not optional; it’s necessary,” she said, stressing that even small daily changes can make a big difference in saving reserves.

Along with urging careful water use, Ms. Panagiotou announced that the Cabinet approved a new package of measures worth 31 million euros. The total projects tackling the water issue exceed 200 million euros.

The Minister also called on farmers to adjust irrigation methods, mentioning that the water available for farming this year will be cut by 30% compared to last year. She stressed that saving water matters not just for farmers but for everyone, and every citizen’s effort is key to tackling the crisis.

The Government aims to have 9 new desalination plants running across Cyprus by the end of 2026. In the last year and a half, two plants have already been finished, while the third is set to be done next month and the fourth in March. These projects will greatly increase water production, meeting a large part of the country’s water needs.
