The Department of Road Transport carried out intensified inspections in Nicosia and Larnaca to curb illegal passenger transport. The operation targets cases where private vehicles provide ride services without required licensing.

In Nicosia, officers checked 120 taxis across urban, rural, and intercity categories, with 14 vehicles reported for violations. At Larnaca Airport, additional targeted checks on eight private vehicles led to further evidence and enforcement procedures.

The department warns that illegal passenger transport can expose the public to serious risk because such rides may operate without proper insurance and without licensed drivers. Passengers are urged to use only lawful transport services.

Officials said inspections will continue in a systematic and targeted manner. The stated objective is to protect legality in the sector and improve passenger safety.
