The revamp of the Ledra-Onasagorou Walkways is now underway. The project ‘Revamp of Ledra-Onasagorou Walkways Area, Phase A – Facades’ was officially presented at Nicosia Town Hall. This marks the start of an important effort to upgrade the historic area in the city center.

Nicosia Mayor Charalambos Prontzos, Deputy Mayor of Nicosia District Chrysanthos Fakas, members of the Municipal Council, technical services staff, and local property owners attended the presentation. They learned about the project’s details and how it will be carried out.

According to the plan, work on the first phase is set to begin after Easter, around mid-April 2026. It will take about 18 months and involve a total of 89 buildings.

The first phase focuses on improving building facades along the two walkways. The aim is to enhance aesthetics while keeping the area’s unique architectural style. The work will cover around 29,500 square meters of building facades over a length of about two kilometers.

The second phase will involve work on an additional 51 buildings. This is expected to start in July 2026 and last about 12 months.

Interventions include repairs to carved stone, plastered surfaces, and concrete on balconies; maintenance or replacement of wooden and metal frames; installation of new gutters; replacing commercial signs; and organizing cables and wires on building facades.

This project is part of the Green Line Area Revitalization Program. It aims to upgrade Nicosia’s walled city, boost commercial activity, and showcase the area’s historical and cultural character. After the presentation, attendees engaged in a discussion, raising questions and sharing suggestions about project implementation and planned interventions in the area.
