Bus drivers gathered at Solomou Square today for a two-hour work stoppage to protest their daily challenges.
Unions say the main issue is the photo enforcement system, which still causes serious problems despite many warnings and interventions.
The work stoppage is happening today from 09:00 to 11:00 in the morning, affecting bus routes.
In their announcement, OMEPEGE – SEK and SEGDAEMELIN – PEO stress that, despite ongoing warnings to the Ministry of Transport about the issues caused by the photo enforcement system and its effects on drivers, no real solution has been offered yet. They also suggested adding warning systems before red lights to prevent sudden stops, which could lead to safety risks for passengers.
As mentioned, a bus cannot stop suddenly, due to its size and weight, and because it carries passengers, many of whom are seated without seat belts or standing, raising the risk of injuries.
