A district meeting on shelters and civil protection was held at the Old Electric building in Paphos, bringing together Police, Fire Service, Civil Defence, EAC, CYTA, mayors and Union of Communities representatives.
EOA Paphos President Charalambos Pittokopitis acknowledged that weaknesses were identified but expressed confidence they would be addressed immediately. According to Civil Defence data, Paphos district has 210 shelters: 81 public, 19 shared and 53 private.
Assistant Officer Costas Constantinou clarified that in a real emergency “everyone will shelter wherever they can find protection.” Acting Paphos Mayor pledged support, while Polis Chrysochous Mayor called for school protection measures.
The District Administration representative proposed creating a detailed shelter register by street. The meeting reiterated that Cyprus is not part of the crisis but part of the solution.
