Payabl., a top financial technology provider in Europe, announces the launch of Tap to Pay. This new service lets businesses accept contactless card payments directly from their smartphone, without needing a separate payment terminal.
The new SoftPOS solution allows merchants working with payabl. to turn Android devices with NFC technology into secure payment terminals. Tap to Pay by payabl. meets the needs of small and medium-sized businesses, enabling them to use their existing mobile devices for payments anytime and anywhere. It’s perfect for events, temporary sales spots, and on-the-go activities like delivery and transportation services.
Commenting on the launch, Group CEO of payabl., Ugne Buraciene, said: “Payments should fit how businesses work, not the other way around. Tap to Pay gives merchants an easy way to accept in-person payments using devices they already have, whether in-store or on the go. With payabl.one, businesses can manage both online and in-person transactions from one place, gaining better insight and control over their finances.”
After downloading and activating the Tap to Pay app, businesses can start accepting in-person payments right away. There’s no need to buy or wait for traditional equipment. The solution also supports PIN entry, sends electronic receipts to customers, and covers basic transaction types like sales, refunds, cancellations, and tips.
With integration into payabl.one, merchants can manage all their online and in-person payments from one platform. This gives them a clear view of transactions, disbursements, and settlement progress. It makes tracking transactions easier and helps businesses see their commercial path more clearly.
The benefits are already being seen. Nafais, a retail fragrance store, activated Tap to Pay just days before its official launch. This ensured they could accept card payments from day one.
Nikos Panagiotou, Director at Nafais, said: “The Tap to Pay solution was set up in just a few days. The process was simple and smooth. Now we can focus more on serving our customers without worrying about payments.”
Since starting with Tap to Pay, 65% of Nafais transactions are now digital. This has sped up checkout and improved the shopping experience in-store.
Contactless payments are growing fast
The launch of Tap to Pay comes at a time when contactless payments are becoming more popular across Europe and the UK. Recently, the £100 limit for contactless transactions in the UK was removed. Now banks and card providers can set their own limits. This change is expected to boost contactless payment use even more.
Consumer habits in the UK are shifting quickly towards contactless payment methods. Data shows that 94.6% of all card payments at physical points of sale under £100 are made using contactless technology.

A similar trend is seen across Europe. According to payabl.’s State of the European Checkout, 41% of European consumers prefer paying in person with a contactless debit or credit card. Meanwhile, 21% choose mobile wallets like Apple Pay or Google Pay. This shows a growing demand for fast and seamless payment solutions.
Breno Oliveira, Chief Product Officer of payabl., said: “Small and medium-sized businesses need flexibility to accept payments wherever their customers are—whether at markets, pop-up events or during delivery services. Tap to Pay by payabl. removes the need for extra equipment and turns mobile phones that merchants already use into secure payment terminals. For businesses operating beyond fixed locations, this means faster activation and fewer hurdles.”
Tap to Pay by payabl. is now available on Android devices, with iOS support coming later this year.
