Last night, the police stepped up their efforts with more patrols in busy city areas. They aim to stop serious crimes, keep people safe, and maintain public order. These actions led to eight arrests across Cyprus.
In Nicosia, four people were arrested. Three were caught driving under the influence of alcohol with readings over 70μg. One person failed to provide a proper breath sample.
In Limassol, two arrests took place. The first person was arrested for dangerous driving after running a red light and had an alcohol reading of 85μg. The second was arrested for assaulting and insulting a police officer.
Also, members of the Road Accident Prevention Unit (RAPU) made two more arrests for drunk driving.
That same night, police conducted thorough checks at various places to stop illegal activities. They carried out over 1,140 checks on the roads, resulting in more than 250 traffic complaints. Of these, 53 were for drunk driving and 59 for speeding.
During traffic investigations, 18 cars, one motorcycle, and one electric bicycle were seized.
The police stress that these operations are part of a larger plan to boost safety in all districts. This includes more patrols, targeted checks, and quick action to prevent crime and improve citizens’ sense of security.
