The Limassol Police Department is stepping up checks and enforcing the law to tackle illegal bonfires. These bonfires have caused big problems in the city and district in recent years.
A special task force has been set up for this. They are doing daily patrols and checks in areas where incidents happen. Operations will ramp up as the Easter holidays get closer.
The police are teaming up with municipalities, communities, and other agencies. Each area has a designated person to keep in touch with the authorities about this issue.
A meeting took place with local government representatives, the Fire Service, District Administration, the Federation of Parents’ Associations, and officers from the British Bases. They all agreed on the need for coordinated actions.
Meanwhile, schools are running informational programs, along with lectures for parents and kids. The goal is to prevent issues and raise awareness about the dangers of delinquent behavior.
The authorities stress that if minors break the law and parents fail to control them, legal action will follow. The first two cases against parents have already been recorded.
