An organised burglary ring that allegedly targeted luxury apartments and homes in Limassol is now in police custody. Investigators are examining about 40 burglary and theft cases believed to have been committed over roughly three and a half months.
The reported loot includes jewellery, gold items, expensive watches, cash and designer bags, with the value so far estimated at more than €7 million. The Limassol District Court approved an eight-day remand for three suspects of Georgian origin aged 49, 48 and 39.
Police say the suspects were tracked through a combination of intelligence and extensive CCTV analysis. A key lead came from information about a rental vehicle moving suspiciously near a luxury apartment building in Agios Athanasios. At the same time, officers were focusing on an apartment in Germasogeia where persons of Georgian origin were staying.
Searches uncovered jewellery, clothing, caps, an expensive watch and specialised burglary tools. GPS tracking devices and electronic cameras were also found, while the suspects’ identity documents are being checked amid indications that some may be forged.
