The Cyprus Police carried out thorough checks all over the island, looking closely at drivers and passengers. The results were eye-opening: in just one night, they recorded 206 traffic violations.
They conducted 657 checks on drivers and passengers, leading to those 206 violations. During these checks, they performed 174 breathalyzer tests. Out of those, 58 drivers tested positive for alcohol and were reported for driving under the influence. Also, three drivers failed a preliminary drug test.
In addition, nine arrests were made for various offenses. These included illegal possession of property, carrying knives and weapons, illegal possession of empty military magazines, staying illegally in Cyprus, drunkenness, disorderly conduct, and executing fine warrants. As part of the traffic offense investigations, ten vehicles were impounded for further inspection.
Police will keep up immediate action in all districts, with more checks planned in the coming days.
