This year’s March 25 national holiday celebrations in Cyprus will take place under rain, with thunderstorms and even hail expected as low pressure and unstable air masses affect the island.
The Department of Meteorology has issued a yellow warning valid until 6:00 PM, with local thunderstorms expected mainly in inland and mountainous areas. Sleet or snow may fall on the highest peaks of the Troodos mountains.
Temperatures will reach around 17 degrees Celsius in inland and coastal areas and approximately 6 degrees in the high mountains. Overnight, localized frost is expected, with temperatures dropping to zero.
On Thursday, weather conditions are expected to partially improve, with isolated showers in the afternoon. Friday will be milder, though a new deterioration is expected from Saturday, with dust suspended in the atmosphere.
Snow depth at Chionistra currently stands at 24 centimeters.
