A low-pressure system south of Cyprus is starting to change the island’s weather. Dust will hang around until Sunday, sometimes in high amounts.
Today, expect mostly cloudy skies with some local showers and a chance of isolated thunderstorms, mainly after noon. In the higher areas of Troodos, there could be sleet or snow.
Winds will come from the northeast at 4 to 5 Beaufort, occasionally hitting 6 Beaufort. Gusts might even reach 7 Beaufort along the coast. The sea will be rough in the west and very rough on other coasts. Temperatures will be about 16 degrees inland, 17 on the coast, and 8 degrees in the higher mountains.
At night, the weather will stay unstable with rain and thunderstorms, while sleet or snow may fall in the mountains. Winds will shift to westerly and northwesterly and will weaken. Temperatures will drop to 12 degrees on the coast, around 9 inland, and near zero in the higher mountains, where frost may form.
On Sunday, expect more clouds at times with local showers or thunderstorms, mainly after noon, and a chance of hail.
On Monday and Tuesday, there will be more clouds with a chance of isolated showers in the mountains.
A yellow warning is in place from the Cyprus Meteorological Department for heavy rain from 07:00 Saturday until 07:00 Sunday. Local rainfall may exceed 55 millimeters in 24 hours, so please be careful.
