A serious traffic accident happened shortly after noon on Grigori Afxentiou Avenue in Larnaca, near the Traffic Department. Six people were taken to the hospital, including two small children. A 66-year-old woman, who was a passenger, is intubated and in critical condition. The others have lighter injuries.
According to police, a vehicle driven by a 70-year-old man had his 66-year-old wife as a passenger. They were driving on the road when they tried to make a right turn at the traffic lights. At the same time, another vehicle carrying a family of four was going straight from the opposite direction. This led to a serious collision.
The second vehicle was driven by a 40-year-old man, with his 45-year-old wife and their two young children, aged 8 and 4. The crash caused major damage to both vehicles and even knocked down an electricity pole. The 66-year-old passenger got trapped inside and needed rescue by the Fire Department. Police reported that all passengers were wearing seat belts, and alcohol and drug tests for the drivers came back negative. The causes of the accident are still being investigated.
