The Parliament has passed a new law changing the Prisons Act. Now, it’s illegal to have or use mobile phones in Central Prisons.

This law sets penalties for having, using, importing, or exporting mobile phones and other banned items. This applies to inmates and outsiders, even if they just try to do it.

Penalties can be up to two years in prison and/or a €6,000 fine. If prison staff are involved, the penalty goes up to three years in prison and/or a €10,000 fine.
