Gale-force winds that struck Cyprus from dawn on Sunday caused serious problems for vessels involved in the construction of a fish market facility in the Pentakomo area, Limassol district. The facility belongs to the Department of Fisheries and Marine Research.

Severe sea conditions dragged two vessels from their positions. One ended up against the breakwaters of the Mari Naval Base, while the second ran aground on a reef within the maritime zone.
Competent authorities and crews rushed to the scene to carry out the necessary operations to remove the vessels and restore the situation.
In a parallel incident, yet another vessel was carried by strong winds to the Governor’s Beach area, raising concerns about the safety of maritime installations.
