Speed continues to claim lives on Cypriot roads — and two young drivers decided to test the limits. The result: handcuffs.
At around 11 p.m. last night, members of the Traffic Police Unit spotted a 25-year-old woman driving at 200 kilometres per hour on the Limassol–Nicosia motorway near the GSP stadium — exactly double the speed limit. Her vehicle was intercepted and she was arrested on the spot.
A few hours later, at 2:20 a.m., the same unit detected a 31-year-old man driving at 195 kilometres per hour on the same motorway, near Nisou. He too was placed in handcuffs.
Both are expected to appear before the Nicosia District Court today for immediate case registration. The arrests are part of intensified policing measures aimed at preventing serious and fatal road accidents.
