Workers at the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) have announced a two-hour warning strike for Friday, 27 February 2026, from 08:00 to 10:00.
According to a joint statement from the trade unions, the action concerns both the overall management of the energy sector and unresolved labour issues within the organisation. The unions point to electricity shortages, continually rising power costs and the disconnection of rooftop photovoltaic systems, attributing these problems to a lack of strategic planning.
Particular objection is raised against public claims of “cheap electricity,” which worker representatives describe as misleading. In their assessment, these developments are short-circuiting EAC’s operations and increasing the risk of system-wide problems in the power grid.
Meanwhile, a raft of labour issues remain unresolved, affecting the organisation’s smooth operation and effectiveness. Workers say they are determined to defend both their own rights and those of consumers, stressing that the current action is a warning — leaving open the possibility of further escalation.
