The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Keir Starmer, reached out to the President of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, to assure him that British military bases on the island won’t be used for US offensive actions.
According to a report by the Independent, the RAF base in Akrotiri, which faced a drone attack at the start of the war with Iran, will not be a launch point for military operations against Tehran. The UK Prime Minister stressed that the security of the Republic of Cyprus is of “utmost importance” to the United Kingdom and that preventive protection measures have been enhanced. He also confirmed that British bases in Cyprus will not be used for any aggressive military action.
The Cypriot government confirmed this communication, emphasizing Britain’s promise not to use the bases for offensive operations.
