The student election process at the University of Cyprus was halted before the scheduled closing time, and no vote count was completed.
According to complaints raised during the process, the core dispute concerned an alleged attempt to place more than one ballot paper into the box. That triggered sharp confrontation between student groups and, as reported, incidents of violence.
After lengthy consultations, all ballot boxes were sealed with locks placed by every participating faction and moved to the FEPAN office, where they are being guarded by representatives from each side.
Progressive KF, Anagennisi, ELAM Student Front and Agonas supported a legal path to clarify the case, while Protoporia requested additional consultation before final decisions.
The main issue now is whether the existing sealed boxes will be counted through a court-directed process or whether another formal mechanism will be used to safeguard election integrity.
