Viber Scammers Pose as Police, Seek Credit Card Info

The Police are warning everyone about a new phone scam using the Viber app. Scammers are pretending to be from the Cyprus Police.

They use Viber to video call unsuspecting people, acting like they are police officers.

Today, a report was made to the Police. A person received a call from abroad. An unknown man pretended to be the Chief of Police. He said he was checking for immigration and financial fraud. He convinced the victim to share personal information and credit card details.

During the call, the scammer turned on the camera. He appeared in a police uniform but didn’t show his head. His profile had a photo of an Assistant Chief of Police and was named Cyprus Police.

• NOT respond to calls or instructions from scammers.

• Not click on any links sent.

• Not share any codes received on their mobile phones with others.
