Violence is happening all over Cypriot society. Sadly, sports venues are not safe from this behavior.
In the last two days, there were incidents at a stadium in Dromolaxia during a U-17 match between Nea Salamina and Apollon. This was part of a championship organized by the Cyprus Football Association. Things got out of hand, involving players, parents, and team staff.
The ‘third half’ happened at the Kiti Police Station, where complaints were made by both sides. Yesterday (8/12), those who complained were pressured to take back their statements.
Last night, a basketball game in Limassol between Apollon and AEK Larnaca took two and a half hours to finish. There were delays, and Apollon fans stormed the court, attacking a foreign player from the Larnaca team.
Unfortunately, dear readers, the violence keeps increasing every day. What’s most worrying is that even at the academy level, parents are getting involved in inappropriate actions. They think they are keeping their kids away from bad influences by getting them into sports. The environment is so toxic that parents don’t know what to do.
