Yiannis Tsoulouftas, the president of the District Organization of Local Government, is very worried about water supply in Limassol. He said the situation is getting critical and warned of ‘nightmarish scenarios’ as summer approaches.
He pointed out that the country is on the edge because important water management projects have been delayed for three years. So far, only one desalination plant from the Emirates is running, thanks to presidential help.
Mr. Tsoulouftas warned that water cuts could lead to serious technical and economic problems. He stressed that Limassol, a popular tourist spot, can’t afford water supply issues, especially in hotels.
He also mentioned that reserves at the Kouri dam have dropped below 10%. As the water level falls, processing becomes harder.
The Limassol District Organization is already putting its action plan into motion. This plan includes using boreholes, cutting down network losses, and starting a public awareness campaign to lower water use. Lastly, he urged the state to act quickly, saying that delays are making the water crisis worse every day.
