Two workers were injured at the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) power station in Vasiliko, Larnaca district, following a violent release of inert gas during maintenance work.
The incident occurred at approximately 1:15 p.m. on Thursday. Initially reported as an explosion, it was later clarified as a sudden release of gas used for fire suppression purposes during routine maintenance operations.
According to Fire Service spokesperson Andreas Kettis, the call was received at 1:13 p.m. and rescue crews from the Larnaca fire stations responded immediately.
The two injured workers were handed over to paramedics and transported to Limassol Hospital for medical assessment. The circumstances of the incident are being investigated by the Labour Inspection Department, which was called to the scene by the Fire Service.
